The Ausangate Mountain (6398 meters above sea level) is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the Andes. It offers an excellent combination for trekking in Peru, with a change in temperature at such a high ecological level of constant irregularity. Ausangate provides picturesque mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers, etc. The hospitality of its people maintains and preserves the knowledge of respect for nature, from the mountains to their agricultural lands, which is the way of life of the experience.
Early morning pick-up from your hotel to start the great adventure to Ausangate. We head southeast of the city of Cusco, traveling along a route surrounded by picturesque villages that still preserve ancestral customs and traditions, enriching our Quechua culture. We’ll have a picnic-style cold lunch at a suitable location. Continuing the journey, we’ll reach the village of Tinki (3850 meters above sea level) where we’ll camp. After dinner, we’ll spend the night.
Breakfast. We begin the hike surrounded by landscapes like those from watercolors, fresh air, and a natural silence that allows you to think about everything from the simplest to the most complex aspects of our existence on this planet. We’ll arrive at the Upis community (4400 meters above sea level) around midday, where we’ll have a local lunch and then enjoy the rustic but healthy and relaxing thermal medicinal baths of the community called Aguas Calientes Upis. Return to the camp, dinner, and overnight stay.
Early in the morning after breakfast, we’ll embark on a long, tiring but pleasant hike to the first pass known as Arapa (4800 meters above sea level). From here, we can contemplate the mountain range and all its nuances of colors due to the vegetation of the area. We’ll then descend to Yanacocha (4500 meters above sea level) or Black Lagoon where we’ll have a picnic surrounded by a spectacular view. After a short rest, we’ll ascend to the highest point of this route, the Extreme Ausangate Pass (4850 meters above sea level). Feeling like we’re touching the sky with our hands, we’ll also contemplate all the beauty that the high Andean nature offers us. A bit tired but satisfied with everything we’ve experienced, we’ll descend to the edge of Ausangate Lagoon (4550 meters above sea level) where we’ll camp. After a restorative dinner, we’ll spend the night.
After breakfast and at the crack of dawn, we’ll start the adventure and the reason why it was worth choosing to do this trek. We’ll test the most perfect machine that nature could create, the human body. If the previous day we touched the sky with our hands, today we’ll be in the sky because we’ll ascend to the highest pass of this expedition, called Palomani Pass (5200 meters above sea level). From here, we’ll have a spectacular and overwhelming view over Mount Ausangate that will surely take your breath away. With some nostalgia but quite cold, we’ll descend a bit into a valley where we’ll have lunch and then ascend again to our campsite at a place called Jampa (4700 meters above sea level). Tired but happy, we’ll have dinner and spend the night.
Breakfast. We’ll start the hike with a small ascent to Campa Pass (5100 meters above sea level), then continue descending to the thermal medicinal baths of Pacchanta (4350 meters above sea level) where we’ll take a relaxing bath and have lunch before continuing to the community of Tinki (3850 meters above sea level), our last camping spot. Arrival in Tinki, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. We’ll take the bus back to the city of Cusco, observing fields and small rustic houses with roofs made of straw, a material typical of the area. Shortly before arriving in Cusco, we’ll stop for the last lunch of the journey. Depending on the majority’s preference, we’ll stop in Tipón to eat Guinea Pig or in Saylla to eat Pork Cracklings. We’ll then continue the journey and arrive in Cusco.
